Ivo Jaager Obituary

Ivo Jaager, 82, passed away peacefully following a long battle with Alzheimer's on September 10th, 2023, with his loving wife Barbara Jaager by his side, hand in hand.

Ivo was born in Tallinn, Estonia on May 15, 1941, to his parents Elise and Valter. Fleeing the war in the middle of the night to Sweden, the Jaager family eventually immigrated to Canada and spent time in Toronto and Vancouver.

Ivo served in the Canadian Army with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, Canada's Longest-serving infantry regiment, and later became a trustworthy, licensed electrician. He moved to Penticton in 1976 with his then-wife, Carolyn, and their children Jerry and Heather. Ivo worked hard and meticulously cared for his family venture with his brother, Esto Villa Apartments for 30+ years. His involvement with the Penticton soccer community as coach, mentor, and friend runs deep and he will be missed by all who knew him on and off the field.

For the past 22 years, Ivo spent his days with his wife Barb enjoying life, travelling, golfing, playing racquetball, boating naked, and sharing stories (and vodka) from his rich cultural history. Ivo was an active member and supporter of the Penticton Legion where he honourably held many titles one of which being the President.

Ivo was predeceased by his brothers, Heldur and Walter, and his son Jerry. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughter Heather, and his brother Peter. Papa Ivo will be missed by his grandchildren, Declan, Adelaine, Bryce, and Taryn, his step-children, Natasha and Jason, and his step-grandchildren, Karis, Carl, Mackenzie, Ali, and Hayden, as well as his nephew and many nieces.

Many thanks to all who visited Ivo during his stay at Westview Place in Penticton and especially to the staff for their compassion and care for Ivo in his last few months.

Ivo requested that he have a Legion Service in his honour celebrating his life at the Penticton Legion, 257 Brunswick St, on October 8th at 11:30 am.
