After a brief and valiant battle with cancer, John passed away Saturday morning at Moog and Friends Hospice in Penticton, BC.
John is survived by his son Rodney (Brenda), daughter Melaney, granddaughters Amy and Frankie, grandson Sam, brother Arden (Donelda), sister Roxanne (Walter), nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many other family and friends from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
John was born into a farming family in Eatonia, Saskatchewan. He was a talented musician and hockey player, and a faithful fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He and his young family moved to Osoyoos, BC, in 1974, while he remained a member of the Royal Canadian Legion throughout his life, playing many Saturday night gigs with his parents and siblings. He retired to Okanagan Falls where he was surrounded by loving friends and neighbours, enjoying many rounds of pool and darts at the local Legion.
John was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Myrt (2017), parents Adnel (1991) and Helen Niles (2000), and Delois “Mom” Olson (2019).
A celebration of life will be held in his home town of Eatonia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for consideration of a donation to your local cancer or diabetes association, or your local Royal Canadian Legion.
